Stupidity of mankind?

Hundreds of tourists travelling day by day to the northern most point of Denmark where North and Baltic Sea meeting each other. Young seals try to rest at the beach but are constantly disturbed by the human passengers. People taking selfies with the cute animals, stroking and throwing little fishes at them.

A guide told me: "They are acting like being in the zoo." In fact they surrendered to tell the tourists how to behave concerning the seals. "If the young seals won't get enough time to rest at the beach the may die in a few weeks..."

Horrific scenery at such a beautiful place.

EXIF: 560mm, 1/800, f/8, Iso 400

(c) Marco Rank, www.marcorank.de
Hadsund Sogn

Magnificent colors of the night sky seen from Hadsund Sogn at the Baltic Coast in Denmark. You really need to have a dark place to get a view on the stars like in this photograph.

Panoramic image made of 15 11mm photographs.

EXIF: 1DX, EF 11-24, 11mm, 30sec, f/4, Iso 12.800

On August 6th a KP4 Aurora (northern lights) happened. You can see it as the purple color on the left (north). On the right the panorama displays the complete wilky way with its brighter and darker areas. Below the milky way a perseid meteor appeared during the exposure. Closer to the horizon the more greenish light is so called airglow. Both the aurora and airglow was reflected in the water of the Baltic Sea.

(c) Marco Rank, www.marcorank.de

Natures power.

Another trip to Pāvilosta, Latvia. Wind speeds achieved more than 32 meters per second that day in Pāvilosta. I had never been near the sea where wind speeds were that high. The first time I understood the real power of wind. Imagine that you have problems to open your cars doors. It was like in the song "Lean on me", but the singer was the wind. You could face the wind with your backside and literally lean on it.

Fishing.

The shot was taken near Pāvilosta, Latvia. I am a passionate hobby-fisher. Winter and the Baltic sea is popular for latvians to "go after flounder". While my fishing rod didn't even show a nibble, the "professional fishermen" showed me how it should be done - they got a pretty decent catch as opposed to me - absolute zero.

A shot of a restless part of the Baltic sea in Liepāja, Latvia.

The time I took this shot, was a part of a bird photography trip and I would call Liepāja the "bird capital city" of Latvia - it is one of the cities, where in winter you can see more than 100+ bird species daily. September comes usually with some windy days. Imagine wind at a bit higher speeds, slippery rocks, "a guy wearing a ghillie suit" and a camera. I would call that an interesting experience.
